DCBA Volunteer Opportunities
1. Come to the monthly Lawyers Lending a Hand Projects
LLH heads out to a different location each month where members of the legal community can provide assistance that doesn’t involve practicing law. Add the Lawyers Lend a Hand group to your profile to receive project announcements, or watch the DCBA Calendar.
2. Assist in staffing the Ask A Lawyer Help Desk
Once a month, DCBA members staff a help desk in room 2017 of the courthouse to assist Pro Se litigants in small claims, tenancy and arbitration (Under $50K) cases. Contact the DCBA office to be added to the list of volunteers willing to assist from 1:00 - 4:30 PM, typically on the last Thursday of the month.
3. Staff the Domestic Relations Pro Se Help Desk
DuPage attorneys practicing in Domestic Relations are needed to volunteer at the Pro Se Help Desk. This service is limited to providing guidance to Pro Se litigants regarding financial Domestic Relations issues. The desk is open Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:30 AM - 1:00 PM. Volunteer by contacting Olga Castillo at 630-407-8858 or olga.castillo@dupageco.org.
4. Support the DuPage Legal Assistance Foundation
Founded by members of the DCBA over 40 years ago, DuPage Legal Aid provides free legal services to hundreds of families every year. CLICK HERE to add your name to the list of volunteer lawyers or to make a contribution, use the secure donation link.
5. Do Pro Bono in your Pajamas with Illinois Online Legal Answers
Legal Answers is a new online portal which provides qualified Illinois residents with access to advice from volunteer lawyers who handle cases on a limited-scope basis, through email. The program was launched here by Illinois Legal Aid Online with support from the Illinois Bar Association and Illinois Bar Foundation. It is part of a larger initiative, first developed in Tennessee, which the American Bar Association is developing nationwide. CLICK HERE to learn more and volunteer to take questions from those needing help from a lawyer when and where it works for you.
6. Support the DuPage Bar Foundation
Founded in 1997, The DBF mission is to support justice in our DuPage community by maintaining the integrity of the legal profession, contributing to the education of future lawyers, and improving the facilitation of justice through charitable acts. Donations to DBF are used for law student scholarships, donations to law-related charitable organizations, and assisting DCBA members who are in need. Click here to donate today.
